The origins of Kolprem Sp. z o.o. date back to 1999. At that time, on the basis of maintenance services separated from the Railway Transport Establishment of Katowice Steelworks (Huta Katowice S.A.), a limited liability company HK Utrzymanie Ruchu ZTK Sp. z o.o. was formed. Another transformation took place in 2001. Following the incorporation of the transport services of the Railway Transport Establishment of Katowice Steelworks, a limited liability railway services company Przedsiębiorstwo Usług Kolejowych KOLPREM Sp. z o.o. was established and until 2007 it provided mainly transport services and services connected with current maintenance and repairs of railway tracks, civil engineering structures and electrical power engineering systems to Mittal Steel Poland S.A., Branch in Dąbrowa Górnicza – now ArcelorMittal Poland S.A.
The company carries out its tasks organised into divisions:
DPZ — External Transport Division
It has 36 locomotives at its disposal, including: EU07, E183, BR232, M62M and more than 1,600 rail carriages of various type. Currently it operates on 30 regular lines between branches of AMP S.A. as the core.
DPW — Internal Transport Division
It takes care of organising transport in Dąbrowa Górnicza, Kraków, Zdzieszowice, Sosnowiec and Świętochłowice on sidetracks owned by AMP S.A. Every shift 45 locomotives of SM-42, S-200, TEM-2, and 16DA series and 1,000 wagons are used. In addition, specialist wagons for carrying liquid pig iron and slag are in use. The annual volume of sidetrack transport amounts to 48 million tonnes.
DRI — Maintenance
Its basic task is to maintain the rolling stock: locomotives and wagons owned by the company. Repairs and overhauls are carried out by skilled personnel on sidetracks in properly equipped workshops. Another important task is the maintenance of railway infrastructure totalling 576 km of tracks, respectively: 220 km of tracks in Dąbrowa Górnicza and 270 km of tracks in Kraków, which makes it one of the largest sidetrack groups in Poland.
